eFileCabinet - Paperless Office System
Any comments about eFileCabinet's paperless office solution would be appreciated. This product is relatively heavily promoted on Google.
This system captures scanned and electronic documents. The documents are saved in a non-proprietary format. There is no comment on the Website what file format eFileCabinet uses. I strongly recommend the use of a non-proprietary system. You don't want to be held hostage to a proprietary system. I prefer Acrobat PDF.
At this time, the "starting" price is quoted at $1,700 http://www.efilecabinet.com/?q=node/23 . For an integrated system, this is reasonable. You might want to inquire whether eFileCabinet charges after the first year.

It looks like some of the issues you are encountering when you file could be solved by using software to keep track of your files. You can try The Paper Tiger Filling system to help you better keep track of your files. Give it a try! We are BBB A-Rated business and are always looking for ways to help people file!

I have numerous problems with efile cabinet 5.0 mostly the software is unstable and crashes. The good news is the data is still there. Functions that should work smoothly do not. The server based OCR is a joke. I have had their techs remote into my system no less than 10 times and the OCR still does not work. Recent updates are helping to stabilize the program...scale of 1 to 5....a 2.5 is the best I can gve them.

I use the eFileCabinet product. I found out that the OCR engine they us is from ABBY from a developer friend of mine. After speaking with their staff, they said they are researching another OCR solution as ABBY is not responding to the requests they have been asking for to make the OCR solution more stable.
The software is the best I have used in the accounting industry and I have switched from the Intuit solution to the RedGear solution and now am using Thompson and CCH products and eFileCabinet has gone from one program to the next and is much more feature rich. We did have a few problems at first with the 5.0 version, but we invested in the training classes they offer and Kevin Anderson and Paul Conterio were so incredibly helpful. We now feel like we are experts with the software and are glad we did the consulting and training. From my viewpoint the previous commentor probably didn't take advantage of the services the staff provided for us, and I would recommend it.
The software also provides better security than I have seen with the other products I have looked at. The data is encrypted, but non-proprietary. They do make it easy to migrate out if leaving. I tried both the Thompson FileCabinet CS and the CCH product and they were klunky at best, so we decided to stay with eFileCabinet instead of the integration provided by other solutions.
We are now getting ready to become financial planners with HD Vest and we are able to use eFileCabinet for our whole business, not just the accounting and tax side.

Used eFileCabinet for less than a year. Too many support issues and bugs. Service is poor and product is wonky. Came from using Lacerte DMS. Do not recommend this product if you are an accounting firm. Cheap cost but you get what you pay for. User friendly though.
